Join Seniors Today As We Celebrate Veterans

In the United States, an official wreath-laying ceremony is held each Veterans Day at the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington National Cemetery, while parades and other celebrations are held in states around the country.

Veterans Day is not to be confused with Memorial Day. Veterans Day pays tribute to all American veterans–living or dead–especially giving thanks to living veterans who served their country honorably.
After a three year hiatus due to Covid and a hurricane, Seniors Today newspaper will have a special ceremony to celebrate all the veterans in our community on Thursday November 9. The ceremony will be held at Holy Cross

Lutheran Church in South Daytona at 11 a.m. “We plan to have a very touching ceremony that will include the Spruce Creek High School color guard, and a pinning ceremony recognizing each veteran and thanking them for their service.” said Seniors Today president Bonnie Schillinger. “Pianist Jackie Lee will play the different songs from each branch of service as we ask those that served in that branch to stand.

We are honored that our Sheriff, Mike Chitwood will once again be our keynote speaker to help honor our veterans.”

This year, Seniors Today has partnered with Arrow Clinical Trials who graciously offered to be our Presenting Sponsor for our event.

However, the celebration doesn’t stop with the ceremony. After the ceremony, everyone is invited to stay and enjoy a free lunch for all who attend the ceremony.

“What better way to celebrate our Veterans than to thank all of them on Veterans Day weekend,” stated Schillinger. “We pride ourselves in being involved in the community. This is not just a business to us but an opportunity to support seniors, charities, our veterans, and give back to our community. We want to give back to those who have inspired us to continue publishing for over 32 years!”

Our celebrations is Thursday, November 9 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 724 Big Tree Road, South Daytona. The veteran’s ceremony begins at 11 a.m. with lunch following in the social hall.
