For me, heading out to work every day really doesn’t feel like work. When you’re blessed with the best job you could ask for, that’s just how it feels.
Of course, every day brings challenges, some tougher than others. Most of us in law enforcement have seen things we’ll never forget and dealt with people on their worst days.
When you feel called to this job and come to work every day with a team like mine, nothing feels impossible to solve.
I started this journey more than 34 years ago as a young Philadelphia police officer, and now one of the best parts of my job as sheriff is seeing new faces begin that same journey.
So I’m hoping that if any of you have friends or family members who would make great law enforcement officers, you will tell them about some great opportunities we have coming up at the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.
On Saturday, Jan. 28, we’re hosting a Career Fair unlike anything we’ve done before. It will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at our Training Facility (3901 Tiger Bay Road, Daytona Beach), where we’ll have demonstrations from our sheriff’s helicopter Air One, SWAT, Bomb, and K-9 units, as well as tours of our Training Academy.
If potential deputy candidates come see us, they’re going to get a real sense of what working for the Sheriff’s Office is like, and the wide range of possibilities they’ll find in a career with us. Not only that—for qualified applicants, we’ll have staff on-site ready to conduct interviews. A great candidate could even walk away with a conditional job offer.
One of the bigger selling points we have for our recruits is that we pay everyone a salary plus benefits throughout their Training Academy experience. When a recruit is training to become a deputy, that individual is bringing home a paycheck and insurance. That gives recruits crucial financial security and stability as they’re getting their career off the ground!
For more information, head over to our website at volusiasheriff.org/careers and click the Career Fair link at the top. We’re looking for quality people who are driven, dedicated, creative, and looking to help people solve problems.
If this sounds like someone you know, please let them know this is their chance to see what we’re all about.
Who knows—we may have a future sheriff or police chief out there just looking for a chance to get started.
Thanks for
all your support,
Sheriff Chitwood
